In a bid to enhance pet safety and reunite lost animals with their families, the Animal Foundation, in collaboration with the city of Las Vegas, is offering complimentary microchips for pets throughout the month of December.
The shelter emphasizes that despite the love and homes awaiting them, approximately 50% of stray dogs and cats arriving at The Animal Foundation are not microchipped.
The microchip, comparable in size to a grain of rice, is painlessly injected beneath a pet’s skin between the shoulder blades, serving as a permanent form of identification. The process mimics a routine shot, lasting mere seconds and requiring no anesthesia.
Cedric Crear, Las Vegas City Councilman for Ward 5, expresses the importance of reuniting lost pets with their families through the new microchipping ordinance. The initiative not only ensures pet safety but also contributes to reducing the number of animals in shelters. Gratitude is extended to the generous partners and The Animal Foundation for providing this service during the holiday season.
Effective August 1, 2024, all dogs and cats aged four months and above residing in Las Vegas must be microchipped.
